WE’RE ENGAGED!
As many of you know, Hunter asked me to marry him two weeks ago and I am SO excited to share the story with you all today 🙂
Several of you have asked if I saw this coming, and my answer is yes. After dating for four years, we knew we were ready to start this next chapter of our lives and we have both dreamed about this day for so long. In May, Hunter told me that we would be engaged by the end of the summer. So as you can imagine I waited with great anticipation, but I tried not to think about it too much because I wanted to be surprised. 😉
There were instances this summer where I thought it might happen, such as his visits to Dallas and our trip to Colorado (which is actually where he asked my parents for their permission to marry me). Now looking back I can see the signs that led to August 20th.
My sister, her boyfriend, and her best friend all came to Dallas that weekend to celebrate my sister’s birthday. I had the weekend planned out to celebrate her but little did I know they were here to celebrate me. (I have the BEST sister). All week leading up to this point Hunter told me that he did not know if he was going to be able to make it to Dallas for the weekend. However, Friday I got a call from him saying that he was going to be able to come, but not until Saturday afternoon. At that point I got a little curious as to what he was planning, but I was completely thrown off because it was my sister’s weekend. And on top of that, my parents were in Florida, and I figured surely he would not ask me if they were not here.
Saturday we started the “birthday celebration” by getting our nails done, going to brunch, and getting blowouts. It was the perfect day! After that we headed home to pop some bubbly, and blast “22” by Taylor Swift (since it was my sister’s 22nd birthday). Hunter called and said that he would be there by 5 p.m. but wanted to spend some time alone with me before the birthday dinner. So he asked if I would come ready for dinner, and we would meet everyone after. As soon as he said that my heart began to race, but I still had no idea what he was planning.
5:00 finally came, and Hunter called and said he was outside. We had not seen each other in 3 weeks so I was very excited, and ran out the door to see him. As I jumped in his truck I asked where we were going. He told me we were going on a walk, and began driving. We finally ended up at the beautiful Lee Park. As we began to walk into the park I felt like I was in a dream. He led me up on the porch of Arlington Hall and proceeded to ask me to read the historical plaque on the wall. I laughed a little and said, “Umm okay.” As I began to read it Hunter was behind me saying, “Tayler, turn around. Tay, turn around.” I nervously replied, “Hold on, I’m not done reading.” Haha I know, I’m as mess! Once I finally turned around he was down on one knee and I lost it. The only words I remember him saying are, “I love you. Will you marry me?” I squealed yes, and jumped into his arms. Proceeding to cry and get makeup all over his shirt. He finally asked, “Do you want to see the ring?” I was so excited that we were finally engaged that I completely forgot about the ring.
After this, Hunter’s family surprised me at the park. They all drove in from Houston the night before to celebrate us. His parents took pictures of us, and then Hunter whisked me away to the most perfect dinner at Neighborhood services. After that we went to the Rustic where we walked out to 50 of our closest friends and family including my parents, who flew in from Florida that day instead of going home to San Antonio like I thought they were doing!
It was the most perfect night of my life. Everyone kept asking me how I was feeling and if I was overwhelmed. All that l I could say was that I felt complete peace. Since the moment Hunter asked me, I have never felt the Lord’s love and peace more. He has been so faithful to lead Hunter and I to this point and we are so excited to begin this new chapter of our lives, growing together through Christ and learning more about His love for us through marriage.
So now begins the wedding planning and I am SO excited to announce that today starts the ” I DO Style” series on TaylerMalott.com.
